With eight faculties, over 40000 students, and many research centers and specialized schools, Lund University is the largest institution for research and higher education in Sweden. ULUND is a member of The League of European Research Universities (LERU), an association of twelve universities offering high-quality teaching within an environment of internationally competitive research. There are many any cutting-edge research groups focusing on real-world issues, with recognition both scientifically and for the connection with teaching (for instance at the faculty of engineering, which is also referred to as LTH).
The relevant expertise of the involved departments (Department of Automatic Control and Department of Computer Science) is in non-linear control, hybrid control, system identification, iterative learning control, and practical implementations of these techniques in industrial systems. Software engineering focuses on embedded systems with practical use-cases from real-time control software for robot control (force control, robot control, software architectures). While the robotics research has its basis in well recognized scientific disciplines, projects and applicability are promoted by several departments sharing the same laboratory. Therefore, the robotics laboratory (hosting some eight industrial robot systems) is utilized by researchers from five different departments ranging from mathematics (computer vision) to mechanics and production engineering.
Together with extensive connections with the industrial robotics industry (mainly ABB), and the experiences from earlier European projects such as SMErobot, the provided competences bring insights that will be instrumental to tackle the COMET challenges.
